Exchange rates at currency exchanges tied to state banks: financial companies warned of return to “black” operations
05.11.2026 06:02Andriy Pyshny, governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, has said he does not intend to resign, and that the issue of his dismissal was placed on the Verkhovna Rada’s agenda without his knowledge.
He wrote this on his Facebook page.
“I have not written or submitted any resignation statement. I continue to perform my duties and do not intend to leave my post under political pressure,” Pyshny said.
He also said he was aware of attempts by certain people’s deputies to include the issue of his dismissal on the parliament’s agenda. At the same time, the NBU governor recalled that the law provides for a seven-year term of office and sets out an exhaustive list of grounds for early removal from the post.
According to Pyshny, these provisions are intended to protect the National Bank and its leadership from political pressure and to ensure the institution’s independence and the stability of the decisions it takes. He noted that four NBU governors have already changed over the past ten years. According to him, this prompts reflection on how effectively the statutory guarantees of central bank independence work in Ukrainian political conditions.
Pyshny also said that the emergence of the issue of his resignation is taking place against the backdrop of prolonged political pressure and a coordinated campaign of discreditation. He stressed that he is ready to report on his work and to discuss, among other things, the difficult and unpopular decisions taken during the war.
At the same time, the NBU governor believes that the institution’s independence should not depend on whether its decisions suit individual politicians. According to him, this is not about personal guarantees for the official holding the post, but about trust in state institutions and established rules.
Pyshny added that any tenure ends sooner or later, but if he makes a decision to leave his post, he will announce it personally and accompany it with a report on the work done.
Searches were earlier carried out in Pyshny’s office. After that, according to Strana, employees from the NBU governor’s team began to wonder whether they should remain at the NBU.
