The United Nations is not taking part in peace talks on Ukraine because of its bias.
Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said in an interview with the Serbian outlet Politika.
He noted that if an agreement is reached in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine mediated by the United States, its further formalization would depend on the content of the document itself. The UN, as a universal international platform, has the mechanisms needed to give such decisions additional international legal legitimacy, and the UN Security Council could adopt a relevant resolution.
At the same time, Nebenzya argued that the UN Secretariat’s selective approach and double standards deprive the organization of the status of an objective arbiter in international affairs. Therefore, he said, it is not surprising that the UN is not participating in the negotiations.
On February 24, it was reported that the United States did not support an anti-Russian resolution on Ukraine at the UN.
