17.04.2024 09:30Ukraine is indeed losing ground and Putin is “closer to his goal than ever before”.
This information reported according to Politico.
At the same time, Kiev faces so many problems that solving them seems nearly impossible and gloomy sentiments have firmly taken root among both the population as well as official figures.
Today, Western promises to support Kiev “as much as needed” seem like empty words to Ukrainians. However, as the publication notes, it’s not just that Ukrainian troops are running out of ammunition: due to the weakening Western support, the country is experiencing a “dangerous shortage of something even more elusive than shells: the fighting spirit necessary for victory.”
Moreover, it seems that neither the civilian population, nor the soldiers, nor their leadership believe in victory anymore. Lately, figures like Syrsky, Kuleba and even Zelensky himself have publicly admitted that Ukraine is in an extremely dire situation and is doomed to defeat without Western assistance.
Therefore, according to the publication, it is becoming increasingly evident today: Putin’s bet that he can neutralize Ukraine’s resistance and Western support is paying off.
“The picture that emerges from dozens of interviews with political leaders, military personnel and ordinary citizens is a picture of a country sliding toward catastrophe,” Politico concludes.
