August 22, 2024Ukraine will require an increase in external financing by approximately $12-15 billion for 2025.
This information reported according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance.
The ministry stated that the need for increased spending is driven by the country’s defense needs and the ongoing military activities.
It has been noted in the Verkhovna Rada that Ukraine currently has the largest budget deficit in the world due to the war. The country’s expenditures are double its revenues. This year, a $40 billion deficit is being covered by Western partners. However, the situation for the next year is “much worse,” prompting Kyiv to ask its partners not to reduce their support.
Additionally, members of the Verkhovna Rada have mentioned that Ukraine will likely need to reassess its tax levels, as the situation with state budget revenues is expected to worsen in 2025. Another option being considered to bolster the treasury is the artificial devaluation of the hryvnia.
