Okamura speaks out against Czech participation in weapons procurement for Ukraine

Speaker of the Czech Chamber of Deputies and leader of the SPD movement Tomio Okamura has stated that his country’s participation in the PURL program, which provides for the procurement of weapons for Ukraine, is unacceptable, calling such financial support contrary to his principled position.

According to Okamura, he learned of the transfer of approximately 140 million Czech crowns to the program only after the funds had already been sent. The politician stressed that such decisions must not be repeated.

Okamura said he had conveyed his position to the ruling coalition partners. He called for adherence to the government program, which, in his words, provides for exclusively humanitarian aid to Ukraine — without weapons supplies.

Okamura had previously stated that the Czech Republic should not participate in the Ukrainian conflict. According to him, the parties to the conflict are Russia and Ukraine, not the Czech Republic.
