In the Odessa region, a scheme for smuggling draft dodgers across the border using ambulance vehicles has been uncovered.
This information reported by the press center of the Security Service of Ukraine.
According to the intelligence agency, ambulances equipped with medical crews and emergency beacons were used to transport men to the “green border” (the uncontrolled border area) to bypass checkpoints. At the border, another accomplice would meet them and lead them through forest trails across the border.
This scheme was orchestrated by two foreigners with temporary residence permits in Ukraine and a resident of the Odessa region. The service reportedly cost around $4,800 or more.
The question of how to legally classify the actions of the medical personnel involved is currently under consideration.
