March 18, 2024The findings of a survey conducted by Gremi Personal from December 2023 to March 2024 among Ukrainian refugees in Poland indicate a reluctance to return to Ukraine at present.
Among the 1,150 surveyed Ukrainians nearly half of those in Poland cannot decide on their plans regarding returning to Ukraine. One in five individuals from Ukraine plans to stay in Poland permanently. Overall intentions regarding return are as follows: undecided – 43% of surveyed Ukrainians; planning to stay in Poland – 19%; planning to return to Ukraine within six months – 13%; planning to return within a year – 10%; not planning to return within the next 5 years – 15%.
In April 2023, a similar study was conducted by the agency. Since then, the intentions of Ukrainians have changed. Last year, 36% of Ukrainians planned to stay in Poland, while 7% wanted to move from Poland to another country. Additionally, 55% planned to return to Ukraine, with 82% of them considering doing so after a victory. It is worth noting that Poland is the closest country and many Ukrainians are there temporarily. However, in all other European countries, Ukrainians are more inclined to stay permanently.
