Opposition blocks signing of medical cannabis legalization bill

A group of ‘Fatherland’ party deputies, led by former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, introduced a resolution to revoke yesterday’s decision by the Rada.

Until it’s voted on, the president cannot sign the law. Meanwhile, the Rada has already gone on holiday until roughly mid-January. Authorities assure that the production of cannabis-based medicines will be strictly regulated. Only legal entities with the corresponding license and special certificate, under 24-hour video surveillance accessible to the National Police, will be able to grow marijuana.

Each plant will have individual coding for tracking its transportation. Medications derived from medical cannabis will only be obtainable through an electronic prescription issued by a physician.
