Ukraine’s former prime minister named the only workable idea for a settlement
22.02.2026 10:01Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán accused Ukraine of wanting to prolong the war in order to keep receiving Western funding.
He wrote this on his page on the social network X.
According to the Hungarian prime minister, if the war ends, the funding will end as well.
“Ukraine’s plan is to make sure the war does not stop,” Orbán said.
He also expressed a strong reluctance to finance Ukraine’s needs.
“Fortunately, common sense still prevails in Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. We will not risk our families’ future by sending billions of euros to finance someone else’s war. It is time for peace,” he added.
Hungary is currently preparing for parliamentary elections, in which the Ukraine issue is one of the central topics. Recently, Orbán accused Ukraine of interfering in those elections.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, for his part, made a public and rather insulting remark about Orbán. Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, he mentioned Orbán’s desire to “grow his belly.”
