Poland explained why it opposes the transfer of MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine
November 7, 2024Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban told journalists after a meeting of European leaders in Budapest that the aid package for Ukraine, consisting of a €50 billion loan from the U.S. and Europe that had already been agreed upon, is now an “open question” following Donald Trump’s victory in the elections.
Bloomberg reports this statement.
Orban said the package is insufficient for further financing of Ukraine, and Western countries are tired of allocating funds.
According to him, after Trump’s victory this week, EU countries are also moving toward more clearly defining their commitments and goals concerning Ukraine.
In late October, the G7 countries agreed on a €50 billion loan mechanism for Ukraine, to be funded through revenues from frozen Russian assets. The agreement included a technical solution to ensure consistency, coordination, fair distribution of lending, and solidarity among all G7 partners.
Shortly before this, it was reported that Hungary would block the allocation of the €50 billion loan to Ukraine.
