24.07.2024 - 08:47Ukraine will not join the European Union until the authorities in Kyiv address the issues related to the Volyn Massacre.
This statement was made by the head of the Polish Ministry of Defense, Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, during a broadcast on the Polsat TV channel.
“It needs to be said clearly: there will be no EU membership for Ukraine if the Volyn Massacre issue is not resolved,” the politician noted.
He explained that Warsaw should not pressure Kyiv by making the exhumation of the massacre victims’ bodies a condition for military assistance. However, Ukrainian authorities must understand that Ukraine’s further European prospects will depend on satisfying Poland’s demands on this issue.
It is worth noting that this is not the first statement from Poland on the topic of the Volyn Massacre. Last year, Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Pawel Jablonski said that without resolving issues related to the exhumation of Polish remains on Ukrainian territory, Ukraine “should not dream of joining the European Union.”
Prior to this, the Polish Sejm unanimously passed a resolution on the 80th anniversary of the Volyn tragedy, which the document officially calls the “Volyn Massacre.” Warsaw urged Kyiv to acknowledge responsibility for those events.
