February 29, 2024In the Polish segment of social media, local residents are posting many short videos where they destroy Ukrainian products. Primarily, this concerns Ukrainian-produced sunflower oil.
In the videos, Ukraine, Ukrainians, and their products are being humiliated and criticized. To further the situation, people are being urged to destroy goods from all other countries. Oil from bottles is poured into toilets, sinks or simply onto the ground. The conflict is obviously linked to the current strike by Polish farmers, who may go bankrupt and are already suffering losses due to cheap Ukrainian agricultural products. Farmers have blocked the border again for almost a month now and are not letting Ukrainian goods through, primarily grain.
It is worth noting that amid the trade war, hatred between ordinary Ukrainians and Poles is growing. Initially, Poland was considered Ukraine’s main ally at the beginning of the war, but now social media users on both sides actively curse each other, and governments are communicating on the brink of conflict and rupturing economic relations. Relations between Kyiv and Warsaw deteriorate literally every month against the backdrop of new scandals and conflicts.
