November 22, 2023The Polish carriers have announced that starting from Thursday, another border crossing point with Ukraine, “Medyka-Shehyni,” will be closed.
This was reported by one of the leaders of the protesting group on Facebook.
Farmers will join the carriers’ protest, and overall, the demonstration will continue at least until February 1, 2024.
Previously, Bloomberg reported that farmers might join the strike of Polish carriers at the Ukrainian border. During the conflict, the EU allowed Ukrainian carriers to transport goods without requiring permits to ease and expedite the flow of cargo.
On November 16, Polish carriers rejected the joint proposals of the European Commission, Ukraine, and Poland, refusing to end the blockade of the Ukrainian border. Their main demand is a return to the permit system for Ukraine.
Yesterday, Ukrainian carriers staged a protest at the border in response to the roadblocks. The event was organized by members of the public organization “International Road Carriers of Ukraine,” and carriers and drivers joined the action.
Earlier reports indicated that there were 53 kilometers of truck queues on the Polish side of the border. About 2,500 trucks are in the electronic queue to cross this checkpoint from the Ukrainian side.
