December 5, 2023Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko confirmed plans for a meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
Poroshenko disclosed this during a briefing, stating,
“Indeed, both I and my services reached out to leaders of states who are somewhat skeptical. Among them are Hungary, Slovakia, and other countries, where I proposed to meet and discuss the situation in order to persuade the leaders of these states, whom I know very well.”
Previously, Ukraine’s Security Service reported that they did not allow ex-President Poroshenko to travel abroad because he intended to meet with Orban.
It’s worth noting that the Hungarian government confirmed that a meeting had been planned between Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Ukrainian MP Petro Poroshenko. The initiative came from the fifth President of Ukraine, who was not allowed to leave the country.
Prior to this incident, Orban had stated that Ukraine’s refusal to permit Poroshenko to travel abroad was “another indication of Ukraine’s unpreparedness to join the EU.”
Additionally, following Poroshenko, three MPs from the “European Solidarity” party—Iryna Gerashchenko, Maria Ionova, and Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze—were also not allowed to leave the country.
