August 30, 2023Relatives of the missing and captured Ukrainian military personnel gathered for a rally at Independence Square in Kiev.
This news is reported by “Suspilne.”
The participants of the rally are pleading for the safe return of their loved ones back home. One of the participants, whose father went missing, expressed the difficulty of the situation, stating,
“My younger brother still doesn’t know that our dad disappeared. We tell him that there’s no communication. It’s very hard when you don’t know what’s happening. You want to help, but you can’t do anything.”
“Our main goal is to find and bring back the missing soldiers from the 30th brigade. We want the military and government representatives to be responsive. We all need to unite,” said another participant of the rally on the square.
Earlier, it was reported that in Ukraine, over a hundred thousand servicemen were registered as missing. Western experts warn the President’s Office that the relatives of the missing soldiers could become a significant issue for the government if they unite.
President Volodymyr Zelensky resorted to radical measures and instructed the Security Service of Ukraine to prevent the relatives from forming any organizations or associations that could potentially bring attention to the losses the government intentionally conceals. According to official data as of April 2023, the authorities only acknowledged around 7,000 soldiers as missing in Ukraine.
