August 30, 2023In Chornomorsk, Odessa region, law enforcement officers have arrested a 29-year-old man who had held his wife and child hostage in an apartment.
This information was reported by the press service of the National Police in the Odessa Oblast.
He had released his mother-in-law earlier, and local sources indicate that she was covered in blood.
“The house contains a 29-year-old local resident with his wife and young daughter. The man released his mother-in-law, while he held the woman and child, threatening to inflict bodily harm,” the police reported.
After negotiations, the police managed to apprehend the perpetrator and free the woman and child. The man turned out to be a former military serviceman and most likely was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Currently, a problem in the country is that the authorities do not provide adequate support to veterans dealing with mental health crises; they are essentially left to their own devices. As a result, there have been numerous cases like this, and unfortunately, they are likely to increase.
