24.09.2026 18:45Kirill Dmitriev, special representative of the Russian president, will hold talks with representatives of the American president’s administration — Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and others — in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
This was reported by Reuters, citing two sources familiar with the preparation of the talks.
According to the agency, the visit has been coordinated with Vladimir Putin. Dmitriev serves as the Russian president’s special representative for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries and heads the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).
One of Reuters’ sources said the purpose of the trip is to support Russian-American dialogue and peacemaking efforts. The agenda for the talks includes economic cooperation between Russia and the United States, energy issues, and the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.
The upcoming meeting continues a series of contacts between the two sides. Earlier, on September 5, Putin held talks with Witkoff and Kushner in Moscow. Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov described them as substantive. Witkoff noted that he heard new ideas at the Kremlin on ending the conflict in Ukraine. Axios journalist Ravid reported at the time on social network X that U.S. Treasury Department official Jean Lang had traveled to Moscow together with Witkoff and Kushner, which may indicate that the topic of sanctions was discussed.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated on September 23 that Moscow would not pause military operations for negotiations with Ukraine in any format. According to him, such a pause is being sought by Europe — “in order to get a breather and replenish the depleted military arsenals of the Kyiv regime.” At the same time, Lavrov emphasized that Russia is ready for negotiations to achieve “a lasting and just peace.”
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told journalists the day before that Washington had invited Putin to the G20 summit in Miami in December, and expressed hope that the Russian leader would accept the invitation.
