24.09.2026 18:01Finnish President Alexander Stubb has said that American negotiators are hoping to achieve a partial ceasefire in Ukraine by the start of winter.
He made the statement in an interview with Bloomberg.
According to Stubb, recent visits by envoys of U.S. President Donald Trump to Moscow and Kyiv indicate the American leader’s intention to take a more active role in resolving the Ukrainian conflict.
“People are counting on a partial ceasefire by winter,” Stubb said.
The Finnish president clarified that such an agreement would need to be mutual. According to him, the idea is for Russia to halt strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, while Ukraine would refrain from attacking Russian oil refineries.
On September 22, Donald Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in New York. During the talks, the American leader spoke about his contacts with Russian President Vladimir Putin and said they are discussing the terms of a possible peace agreement between Moscow and Kyiv.
Earlier, Zelensky indicated where trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia could take place.
