August 14, 2024Ukraine has put the topic of peace negotiations with Russia on a long-term pause following its offensive in the Kursk region.
This was stated by Rodion Miroshnik, Special Envoy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during a briefing in Moscow.
“There is a recognition that, at the very least, Ukraine has put the track related to peace negotiations on a long-term pause due to its actions in the Kursk direction,” the diplomat said.
It should be recalled that two days ago, Vladimir Putin stated that Ukraine’s offensive in the Kursk region aims to improve its negotiating position, but added that “there can be no talk of negotiations with Kyiv.”
“But what kind of negotiations can we have with people who indiscriminately strike at civilians, civilian infrastructure or attempt to create threats to nuclear energy facilities?” the Kremlin leader said at the time.
Yesterday, Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, announced that Putin’s “proposals” from June have lost their relevance following the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ offensive in the Kursk region. According to Polyansky, Russia made a “generous offer” to Ukraine, but the Ukrainian authorities “chose escalation.”
