Lavrov responded to a question about the location of the second round of negotiations with Ukraine
27.05.2025 - 11:29If Western countries move from words to action and actually begin supplying long-range weapons to Kyiv, the Ukrainian conflict will enter a new phase, significantly complicating the negotiation process.
This was stated by Russian Senator Andrey Klimov.
“Words about lifting restrictions on the supply of long-range missiles don’t have much of an impact on negotiations. But actions do. If such restrictions are indeed lifted in practice, the conflict will escalate to a new level. And the previous premises for resolving it might not work. So Western countries’ representatives should pay closer attention to what they say and do,” the politician advised.
Klimov emphasized that even the supply of long-range missiles to Ukraine would not prevent Russia from achieving its objectives in the conflict. But, as the senator warned, it could change the conditions for resolving the contradictions between the sides.
“U.S. President Donald Trump once said about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that every word of his only makes the situation worse and more confusing. The same can be said about German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and some other European leaders. All of this won’t prevent Russia from accomplishing its complex tasks, but the options for resolution may change due to the actions of people like Merz,” the senator noted.
Earlier, Merz stated that the decision to lift restrictions on Ukrainian missiles was made several months ago. According to him, the countries that imposed restrictions on Kyiv had “long since canceled their demands.”
