Lukashenko stated that the West is ready to negotiate peace in Ukraine on a draw basis
October 31, 2024Russia could achieve success in Ukraine next year if the situation for the Ukrainian Armed Forces remains as “grim” as it currently is.
This information writes Washington Post columnist Ishaan Tharoor.
“By next year, the grim reality of the conflict could lead to a scenario where Russia largely gets its way. Kyiv’s forces are desperately trying to hold the line in the eastern part of the country but are losing ground in some areas. Visions of an outright victory are fading. Western support is also weakening,” Tharoor explains.
According to Tharoor, “the prospect of Ukraine agreeing to a compromise with Russia—conceding territory in exchange for certain Western security guarantees—is becoming increasingly realistic.”
“This would lead to an uneasy peace that would haunt European politics for years. Trump appears to favor such an agreement. His advisors openly talk about prioritizing U.S. strategic assets against China,” the columnist writes.
Previously, the Financial Times, citing sources, reported that if Donald Trump wins the U.S. presidential election, he intends to act “with dizzying speed” to end the war in Ukraine along the current front lines, but would leave security guarantees for Kyiv up to Europe.
