There are fewer and fewer areas controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces: a soldier reported that Russian troops have entrenched themselves in the industrial zone of Pokrovsk
28.10.2025 - 08:01Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said that Kyiv will be able to hold out for another two to three years, based on the current pace of the Russian army’s advance.
This statement was commented on by Russian political analyst Dmitry Solonnikov.
“From the point of view of how the Ukrainian army retreats a few kilometers each week, this is quite an acceptable result for the West. Therefore, they believe that at this rate, Kyiv will definitely last another two or three years. However, these calculations do not take into account the economic factor,” the political analyst said.
He noted that, economically, Ukraine has long ceased to be an independent state, since even its domestic budget is funded by the West.
“In Europe, they also believe their own economies can withstand another two or three years. But again, the factor of uncertainty is not considered. No one can predict whether the global economic system itself will withstand the sanctions in the coming years, whether there will be a crisis in the U.S. and Europe, or whether political courses will change in France and Germany. The uncertainty in Europe is very high, so Tusk’s projections will only work if the current status quo is maintained,” Solonnikov concluded.
Earlier, Prime Minister Tusk stated that, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine is ready to fight for another two to three years. At the same time, the Polish prime minister expressed confidence that Ukraine will survive as an independent state, unlike Russia, whose economy, he said, is facing “dramatic” problems exacerbated by new sanctions.
Previously, Russian officials warned of potential risks to embassies in Europe following Tusk’s remarks.
