22.01.2026 11:21In early January, Russian President Vladimir Putin received, through his aide Kirill Dmitriev, a draft peace plan agreed with Ukrainian and European partners.
This was reported by Bloomberg, citing informed sources, as it described new details of behind-the-scenes negotiations on settling the conflict in Ukraine.
The documents were delivered unofficially for preliminary review. This procedure was intended to allow the Russian side to prepare a response and propose amendments ahead of the expected visit to Moscow by U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steven Witkoff and the American leader’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. According to the sources, many key issues for Moscow are either not addressed in the plan or are formulated unsatisfactorily.
However, the very fact that work on these topics has begun was perceived positively in the Kremlin. Washington’s new proposal is regarded as a significant step forward compared with previous rounds of contacts. Bloomberg previously also reported that the Russian side positively assesses Jared Kushner’s role in structuring the negotiation process.
Diplomatic maneuvering around a possible peace settlement continues while active fighting on the front line persists. The transfer of the document through unofficial channels indicates the sides’ desire to maintain confidentiality and flexibility at the initial stage of discussing extremely sensitive issues on which the future of the region depends.
