Russia responded to Yermak’s remarks about sanctions against the country
12.05.2025 17:06The upcoming negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian representatives in Istanbul on May 15 are most likely to take place at the diplomatic level.
This was stated by Ivan Timofeev, Director General of the Russian International Affairs Council.
“I don’t know if this will be a high-level meeting — there are doubts about that. I think the Russian president will not be in Istanbul; he will most likely send diplomats to the talks,” he said.
Timofeev emphasized that meetings between heads of state require extensive diplomatic preparation.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed that Ukraine return to the negotiating table unconditionally. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky responded that he would wait for Putin in Istanbul personally — but only if Moscow agrees to a full and long-term ceasefire starting May 12.
