Russia has revealed details of a possible meeting on Ukraine in Istanbul on May 15
12.05.2025 16:26U.S. President Donald Trump has not ruled out the possibility of traveling to Istanbul, where negotiations between Ukraine and Russia are planned to take place.
Trump made this statement during a conversation with journalists.
The White House leader also suggested that both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin (who has not yet publicly confirmed his participation) might attend the meeting.
“I insisted that this meeting should happen — and it will happen. I think something good might come out of the meeting in Turkey on Thursday between Russia and Ukraine. As I understand, both leaders are planning to be there. I’ve been considering flying there. I don’t know where I’ll be on Thursday — I’ve got so many meetings — but I really have been thinking about going. I think it’s a possibility, if there’s a sense that something could happen. But we need results. We need to save 5,000 lives a week. 5,000 lives a week. 5,000 lives a week. In fact, maybe even more,” Trump said.
“I think Russia will agree to a 30-day ceasefire,” the U.S. president added.
Commenting on Trump’s statement, the Telegram channel Politika Strany noted: “Considering Trump’s remarks about being ready to attend the talks in Istanbul between Ukraine and Russia, and his prediction that Putin might also be there and agree to a ceasefire, one conclusion is clear: if Putin announces his trip to Istanbul, it would mean that an agreement to end the war is truly possible.”
