Russian security forces accuse Ukraine’s GUR of organizing terrorist attack in Damascus during Macron’s visit

Russian security forces have stated that the terrorist attack in Damascus may have been organized by Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR).

This was reported by TASS, citing its own source in Russia’s security structures.

According to the Russian side’s version, the plan of the operation was for GUR representatives to warn French President Emmanuel Macron about the impending explosion and thereby “save his life.”

“According to the information we have, the terrorist attack in Damascus is a provocation by Ukrainian military intelligence. According to the plan of [former GUR chief Kyrylo] Budanov, it was GUR representatives who were supposed to warn Macron about the explosion and ‘save his life.’ However, French intelligence services managed to learn about the planned attack on their own,” the agency’s source said.

Earlier, Arab media reported the detonation of two improvised explosive devices in one of Damascus’s districts. According to available information, the incident occurred near the building of Syria’s Ministry of Tourism, as well as near the hotel where Macron, who had arrived on a visit to the Syrian capital, was staying.
