November 26, 2024The majority of surveyed Ukrainians support the start of negotiations with Russia to end the war
November 27, 2024During the full-scale war with the Russian Federation, according to military-medical commission conclusions, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have discharged forty-one senior officers from active service.
This information is based on data from February 24, 2022, to August 1, 2024, provided to Radio Free Europe by the Main Directorate of Communications of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
According to the military-medical commissions’ decisions, individuals released from military service include, for example, former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Valerii Zaluzhnyi, former Chief of the General Staff Serhii Shaptala, former Commander of the Medical Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Tetyana Ostashchenko, and former Commander of the Joint Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Yurii Sodol.
Earlier, an employee of the territorial recruitment center claimed that officers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were discharged without proper justification.
According to court documents, the head of the reserve officers and personnel department, from March to September 2022, failed to ensure proper security and completeness in handling documents related to the registration of reservists. This led to the unjustified removal of 19 reserve officers from military records.
Additionally, media reports indicated that Volodymyr Zelenskyy authorized foreigners to hold officer positions in the Ukrainian military. The decision also applies to stateless individuals, who can now also become officers in the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
