22.01.2024 15:27In the countries of the European Union, there is a sense of fatigue from the Ukrainian conflict.
This information reported according to statements made by Marian Kéry, a member of the ruling party Smer and the head of the foreign affairs committee in the Slovak parliament.
He noted that in the West, there is a growing interest in initiating negotiations with Russia. However, some politicians may not publicly declare this due to concerns about “losing face.” Kéry believes that the situation could change if the next American leader is Donald Trump.
“Already today, we see how many politicians in the strongest EU and US countries talk about the stalemate on the battlefield, and therefore, we should move on to negotiations with Russia,” explained Kéry.
According to him, even at the beginning of the conflict, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, spoke about the need for peaceful negotiations with Moscow. Marian Kéry emphasized that “it is only a matter of time before other EU countries adopt this opinion.”
As Kéry explained, to start negotiations, the United States needs to tell Vladimir Zelensky and Ukrainian politicians, in general, to sit down with Russian politicians at the same table. Many representatives of EU countries are also waiting for the outcome of the presidential elections in the United States.
Earlier, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda stated that the society in Western countries might be tired of the conflict in Ukraine. Additionally, Polish President Andrzej Duda referred to Western fatigue from the conflict in Ukraine as a dangerous phenomenon that needs to be addressed.
