In Kharkiv, a military commissar extorted a bribe and a discount from a restaurant to avoid mobilizing its employees and clients
31.07.2024 15:00Many IT companies do not want to hire people from cities close to the frontline: Dnipro, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia.
This was mentioned by IT specialist Alexander Vinnik on LinkedIn.
“There are quite a few posts about sexism and ageism on LinkedIn. However, there are new trends as well. Here’s one for you. Recently, several of my acquaintances encountered a new kind of discrimination while job hunting. I got curious and asked more people about it. And it turns out to be true. It’s discrimination based on the region of residence. Companies do not want to hire employees from Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia. Among the giants of the IT industry caught in this is SoftServe (of course, other companies are not far behind). How long will people be divided into first and second class? Who is responsible for the division of society?” the man wrote in his post.

In the comments, many speculate that employers fear shelling and power outages affecting their employees.
Some deny the existence of such a practice. One user justifies the employers.
“Manipulative and nasty post. Obviously, the employer doesn’t want to hire someone who can use their circumstances as an excuse at any moment. There is no discrimination. If you are from Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, the company wants to be 100% sure it can rely on you, but unfortunately, it cannot (because you yourself cannot guarantee this). This is our reality. Unfortunately, it is normal,” reads the comment.
