September 14, 2024British long-range missiles, Storm Shadow, will not help Kyiv alter the strategic situation in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
This information reported according to an article in the Financial Times.
It is noted that the Russians have already relocated their aircraft from airfields that were priority targets for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Now, Russian bombers are positioned outside the range of Storm Shadow missiles and American ATACMS.
Western experts believe this move has also reduced the overall effectiveness of Western weapons, as there are now fewer aviation targets within their reach.
Military analyst Michael Kofman described this situation as reminiscent of the “Yes, Minister” British sitcom, which parodied government bureaucracy. The decision on whether to grant Kyiv permission for missile strikes on Russia was so widely discussed and took so long that by the time it might be made, “there would be no point in it anymore,” Kofman stated in his podcast “Russia Contingency.”
Another issue is the limited stockpile of Storm Shadow missiles and their French equivalent, SCALP-EG, which the Ukrainian Armed Forces already have or could potentially receive.
“Missiles are not a strategic panacea for Ukraine’s strategic military situation,” an anonymous Western official told the publication.
