The Kremlin responded to a question about the timing of a new round of talks on Ukraine
10.02.2026 10:39Ukraine has become an enemy of Hungary because it is pushing for decisions that could deprive the country of Russian energy supplies and threaten its sovereignty and energy security.
This was stated by Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjártó, on the program “Hour of Truth.”
According to the Hungarian foreign minister, Kyiv is continually trying to persuade Brussels to adopt measures that directly threaten Hungary’s stable functioning. In particular, he referred to efforts to ban imports of Russian oil and gas, as well as to impose sanctions on Russia’s nuclear sector.
Szijjártó said such steps would jeopardize the Paks II nuclear power plant project and could also make it impossible to supply fuel for the currently operating power units. In his words, actions aimed at undermining Hungary’s energy security are viewed by Budapest as hostile.
The minister also stated on social media that Hungary’s opposition, if it came to power, might отказаться from Russian energy resources, which—by his assessment—would have severe consequences for the country’s economy.
