Vance stated that the U.S. will withdraw from Ukraine negotiations if there is no positive response to their peace plan
23.04.2025 08:22The refusal to hold talks in London was linked to the lack of a viable plan for Ukraine
23.04.2025 11:28The meeting in London dedicated to resolving the conflict in Ukraine will not take place at the level of foreign ministers, as originally planned, but rather at the level of experts.
This was reported by the British television channel Sky News.
Following the United States, the foreign ministers of the United Kingdom, France, and Germany also withdrew their participation.
Only a bilateral meeting is expected between Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha, who will still attend in London, and his British counterpart David Lammy.
From the U.S., Special Representative for Ukraine Keith Kellogg is expected to attend in the British capital.
The information from Sky News was confirmed by the Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak. On his Telegram channel, he wrote that Ukraine did not downgrade its delegation for the London negotiations, despite the withdrawal of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the foreign ministers of the three European countries.
According to Yermak, he arrived in London along with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Sybiha.
“Despite everything, we will work for peace. We will meet with American and European counterparts who are currently in the British capital. The path to peace is not easy, but Ukraine has been and remains committed to peaceful efforts,” the head of the President’s Office wrote.
He also stated that Ukraine “is not an obstacle on the path to peace.”
“Today, we will talk about ways to achieve a full and unconditional ceasefire as the first step toward a comprehensive settlement process and the achievement of a just and lasting peace,” Yermak emphasized.
As a reminder, The New York Times previously reported that Rubio declined to attend the London talks because Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had rejected U.S. proposals concerning Crimea.
