11.08.2025 - 14:02Co-chairman of the right-wing party Alternative for Germany (AfD) Tino Chrupalla has called for the cancellation of increased Bürgergeld welfare payments for Ukrainian refugees in Germany.
He stated this in an interview with the TV channel ZDF.
According to him, refugees from Ukraine are receiving this benefit “unfairly” and “should return to their country.”
He also urged that the war in Ukraine be ended as soon as possible, calling it “not our war” and saying it should be resolved at the cost of Ukraine “ceding territory.”
Earlier, Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder of the Christian Social Union (CSU) also called for Ukrainian refugees to be stripped of Bürgergeld.
As a reminder, under the current coalition agreement between the SPD and CDU/CSU, Ukrainian refugees arriving after April 1, 2025, are to receive lower benefits.
