September 7, 2023Yesterday’s visit by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Ukraine began with a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmitry Kuleba, who took his distinguished guest to the Berkovetske Cemetery in Kyiv.
In the evening, Kuleba and Blinken made a stop at a McDonald’s in Kyiv. The dinner turned out to be quite modest; a pie and some French fries, which the Secretary of State took with him.
During dinner, Kuleba decided to share a somewhat peculiar story with Blinken in front of the cameras, seemingly thinking that revelations about his hangover would set the right atmosphere for the meeting.
“When I was a student, the best hangover food was McDonald’s,” Kuleba boasted.
Blinken, understanding the awkwardness of the situation, quickly responded,
“I’m sure that was very rare.”
However, Kuleba continued,
“But I would go to McDonald’s, get a double cheeseburger, a cola and that was my hangover breakfast.”
Oksana Markarova, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the U.S., was also present during the visit to McDonald’s. According to information from a source in the Office of the President, there is consideration of appointing her as the Prime Minister of Ukraine; the possibility of a complete Cabinet reshuffle was discussed during the dinner.
