The chief of staff of ‘Azov’ called the 2023 summer counteroffensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces stupid

The Ukrainian counteroffensive in the summer of 2023 was “idiotic.”

This statement was made by the chief of staff of “Azov,” Bohdan Krotevych, in an interview with Ukrainian media.

He considers the plan to attack five lines of Russian defense initially doomed to failure.

“Attacking five lines of defense is idiocy. This is something we just can’t seem to learn. I don’t know, maybe self-immolation in front of the Verkhovna Rada is needed to say and be heard: ‘Look, where there are five lines of enemy defense, you shouldn’t attack; you should attack where the defense is weaker,'” said Krotevych.

According to him, the strikes should be made where the enemy does not expect them, but in Ukraine, “everyone says we will go to Crimea, and we go to Crimea.”

“It’s not so much the war that kills me, but such total idiocy. I can’t blame anyone who made the decision to attack in this way. Apparently, there was a council, probably some were in favor, some spoke against, and they made the decision they did. But the counteroffensive was idiotic,” he repeated.

He also mentioned that the enemy was ready to retreat to Tokmak, where their main line of defense is, but then a fatal failure occurred: the 47th Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine broke through the line and advanced 9 km deep, but was then covered by a neighboring Ukrainian brigade – and “chaos” ensued. As a result, the 47th retreated, and other units could not break through.

According to Krotevych, the commander of this direction refused to come to the scene to coordinate the interaction of the brigades.
