Zelensky’s appointments of generals are incompetent and harmful to the army

Former Deputy Minister for Temporarily Occupied Territories Georgiy Tuka stated that Zelensky’s personnel decisions are based on personal loyalty to the president. Competence and professional skills are not taken into account.

When Valeriy Zaluzhny was the Commander-in-Chief of the army, his conflict with the Bankova was primarily due to the President’s Office interfering in the personnel policy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), promoting its sympathizers and creatures, disregarding the level of competence. Undoubtedly, there will be significant personnel changes as occurred in the National Guard. However, this is unlikely to lead to improvement, says Georgiy Tuka. If the main criterion for appointment is personal loyalty to the “green” leadership rather than professionalism and competence, this will ultimately only worsen the situation, the former official stated.

It is worth noting that General Zaluzhny led the army for two years and despite the failed counteroffensive, did not lose many new territories. Whereas immediately after Syrsky’s appointment, the Ukrainian army began to retreat intensively, losing more soldiers and equipment.
