“They stand, laugh, and wait for a potential victim”: a soldier called for sending military recruitment center staff to the front
09.02.2025 13:35A lecturer from Ivan Franko Lviv National University was found severely beaten near Kyiv.
This was reported by Kyiv-based Telegram channels.
According to reports, the man was detained by representatives of the territorial recruitment center near the Stryiskyi market in Lviv while on his way to work. He was then forced to undergo a military medical examination within just two hours.
Later, he was discovered on the side of a highway near the capital with a skull fracture and brain swelling.
He is currently in critical condition.

According to blogger Vlad Kononov, the victim’s name is Stepan Bilchenko.
“Stepan Borysovych Bilchenko was abducted by employees of the territorial recruitment center in Lviv, near Stryiskyi market, around 9:00 AM while he was on his way to work at Ivan Franko Lviv National University, where he worked as a senior laboratory assistant at the Department of Nuclear Physics, conducting practical and laboratory sessions for students,” Kononov wrote.
Bilchenko was reportedly taken to the Lychakiv-Zaliznychnyi Territorial Recruitment Center under the pretext of updating his records. However, he was forced to undergo a military medical examination in just two hours without a proper medical assessment. Most doctors, he allegedly did not even see.
“Stepan suffers from obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA), but the commission reportedly dismissed his condition, stating: “If it doesn’t bother you now, then you’re healthy.” He was illegally detained for the entire day, subjected to psychological pressure and intimidation, issued a draft notice, and forced to sign a document falsely stating that he had voluntarily appeared at the recruitment center at 7:00 PM”.
Bilchenko was transported to Kyiv in an unusually short time. While the full circumstances remain unclear, after his expedited mobilization and rapid transfer near Kyiv, he was found abandoned on the roadside. A passerby called an ambulance.
Doctors at the hospital diagnosed him with “brain swelling, a skull base fracture, and a hematoma.” His final diagnosis is still being clarified, and he remains in critical condition.
Kononov, who is a close friend of Bilchenko, believes that his job at the university should have granted him a deferment from military service. Additionally, Bilchenko had been performing alternative service due to religious beliefs and possessed the necessary documentation.
