August 1, 2024Corrosion has already appeared on the shield of the “Motherland Monument” in Kyiv a year after the installation of the Tryzub.
This was stated by the director of the Paton Institute of Electric Welding, Ihor Kryvtsun.
“The Tryzub was welded on, but no one consulted us. The problem is that where they welded it – it’s windy there, there is no protection, and all these seams are at risk – they are already yellow, even though it is stainless steel. And recently we inspected the monument with drones and saw that there is already corrosion,” he said.
According to him, the institute was approached for approval only after the welding work had been completed.
“I said – no, guys, you did the work, you are responsible,” Kryvtsun stated.
The author of the Tryzub, which replaced the Soviet emblem on the “Motherland Monument” in Kyiv, confirmed that the top surface welds on the shield have rusted.
“And this is natural for welding, but the binding mass of the weld itself will last more than a hundred years,” said sculptor Oleksiy Pergamenshchyk.
He believes that Ihor Kryvtsun, the director of the Paton Institute, spoke about the corrosion “because they were not officially involved in the project.”
“But an equally renowned institute, the V. N. Shimanovsky Institute, was involved. They conducted an expert examination according to my project. I saw the quality of execution at all stages, I was present every day during the welding – the Tryzub was welded following all technologies. Some people just waited a whole year to create publicity for themselves on the anniversary of the Tryzub installation,” Pergamenshchyk stated.
