August 1, 2024Ukrainian producer Alexander Rodnyansky criticized the idea of mass renaming streets in Odesa, proposed by the regional military administration.
“Unique Odesa literature and cinema are an integral part of Ukraine’s multicultural heritage. Perhaps we shouldn’t be dividing Ukrainian society? We shouldn’t be pitting people against each other. Maybe it makes sense to stop language and cultural debates and unite to fight the aggressor? Overzealous officials will disappear. They always disappear without a trace. Only one remains in memory – Shvonder. But writers, artists, and actors will remain. They’ve seen worse,” Rodnyansky writes.
It should be noted that the renaming has also been criticized by the Mayor of Odesa, Trukhanov.
The regional military administration proposes to rename Pushkin Street, Paustovsky Street, Bunin Street, Babel Street, Ilf and Petrov Street, Vysotsky Street, Zhvanetsky Boulevard, and others.
