‘The changes in mobilization will also affect Ukrainian men living abroad’, – Ukrainian MP
January 6, 2024European Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski has spoken out against extending the regime of free trade with Ukraine if restrictions are not imposed on the import of Ukrainian agro-industrial products into the European Union.
Wojciechowski made these remarks during an interview on RMF FM.
The Euro-official asserts that there has been a significant increase in the import of poultry meat and sugar from Ukraine recently, posing a threat to the competitiveness of the European sector. Wojciechowski demands that the new regulation introduce quantitative restrictions on the import of poultry meat and sugar from Ukraine; otherwise, he will oppose extending the free trade regime with Ukraine.
It’s worth noting that recently, the Polish Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Czesław Siekierski, stated that the new Polish government led by Donald Tusk would maintain the ban on importing Ukrainian grain into the country. According to Siekierski, the ban will remain in place until new rules are developed at the EU level.
Meanwhile, on January 4th, Polish farmers resumed their blockade of the Medyka-Shehyni border checkpoint with Ukraine. Their protest is expected to continue until February 3rd or until their demands are met – signing guarantees by the Polish government to introduce subsidies for purchasing corn and maintaining the agricultural tax.
