The European Union is offering Ukraine its own mineral resources deal

The European Union is offering Ukraine an alternative mineral deal to the American one, claiming it will be beneficial for both sides, unlike the terms demanded by U.S. President Donald Trump.

EU Commissioner for Industrial Strategy, Stéphane Séjourné, stated that he presented an alternative proposal to Ukrainian officials during a meeting in Kyiv yesterday, Politico reports.

“Ukraine can supply 21 out of the 30 critical materials needed by Europe as part of a mutually beneficial partnership. The added value that Europe offers is that we will never demand a deal that is not mutually advantageous,” Séjourné said.

Meanwhile, Trump announced yesterday that a deal regarding Ukraine’s resources would be signed “very soon.” However, Ukraine has not yet agreed to the proposed American terms, insisting on the inclusion of security guarantees. The U.S. wants Ukraine to pay $500 billion using its natural resources as compensation for previously provided aid.
