“Putin treated me with great respect”: Trump admitted that he called the Russian president immediately after his re-election
25.02.2025 11:30Donald Trump’s team discussed Moscow’s willingness to end the war during their first negotiations with the Russian delegation in Riyadh and received a positive response. Now, the Americans want to understand the conditions that the Kremlin is setting for this to happen.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio revealed this in an interview with Breitbart News.
“We need to get both sides to the negotiating table, starting with the Russians. That’s why we met with them last week, and the main question at that meeting was: ‘Are you at all interested in ending this conflict, or not?’ They said they would be interested—under certain conditions. We did not discuss what those conditions were. The next step is to meet with them again at some point, with the right people in the room, and start discussing what it would take for Russia to stop the war. And of course, we need to ask Ukraine the same question because the war cannot end unless both sides agree,” Rubio stated.
According to him, the U.S. is beginning the negotiation process without knowing how long it will take or whether it will succeed.
“Maybe this process won’t be successful, but why should anyone criticize President Trump for wanting to end a war that has cost billions of dollars, hundreds of thousands of lives, and caused immense human suffering?” the Secretary of State asked rhetorically.
Reports had indicated that the next round of U.S.-Russia negotiations was scheduled to take place today in Riyadh. However, the Russian Foreign Ministry denied these media claims.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Moscow and Washington would hold full-scale consultations focused on normalizing the work of their embassies.
