The U.S. and Russia will hold renewed talks in Riyadh today – Die Welt

The United States and Russia will hold a second round of negotiations today in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

This was reported by the German newspaper Die Welt, citing sources.

According to the publication, these negotiations will be a “continuation of the meeting” between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio last week, which did not include representatives from Ukraine or the European Union.

Die Welt states that the meeting will focus on Ukraine.

“Representatives of Russia and the United States are once again holding talks today in the Saudi Arabian capital, Riyadh, about the future of Ukraine,” the report says.

The negotiations in Riyadh are taking place a day after French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Washington. In the U.S., he stated that a ceasefire in Ukraine could be reached within a few weeks.

Meanwhile, Lavrov previously announced that Moscow and Washington would hold full-scale consultations this week on normalizing the work of their embassies. However, he did not mention that Ukraine would be a topic of discussion.

On February 21, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a new round of White House negotiations with the Kremlin would take place on February 25 in Riyadh.
