‘The road to Avdiivka is strewn with our bodies’: a Ukrainian military personnel said that from the practically surrounded stronghold ‘Zenith’ to the south of the city, no one was withdrawing them
16.02.2024 08:36The most important decisions are not being made in Kiev or Moscow – they are being made in Washington by a once little-known Louisiana lawyer who has become the Speaker of the House of Representatives against all odds, writes The Washington Post.
After the approval of military aid for Ukraine in the Senate, all eyes are on Republican Mike Johnson, who has already stated that he will block the bill due to the lack of progress on border security. However, it is not only about him, but also about a change in trend. The United States is increasingly less likely to help Ukraine, and there is a possibility that Russia may soon win the war completely.
The real problem for Kiev has become not the speaker, but the growing skepticism about supporting Ukraine from Republican voters. At the same time, Johnson is being pressured by former President Donald Trump, who is using the border crisis in his reelection campaign and cares little about the needs of Ukrainians.
