12.02.2025 16:51The gas that Ukraine is currently importing from Europe is of Russian origin.
This statement was made by Slovakia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Juraj Blanár, on his Facebook page.
Responding to claims by Slovak journalists that Bratislava supplies gas to Ukraine, he confirmed Slovakia’s direct involvement in Ukraine’s acquisition of Russian gas.
“The truth is that the Russian gas Ukraine purchased abroad flows into Ukraine through Slovak territory,” he wrote.
Western media previously reported that Ukraine had begun actively importing gas from Hungary, Slovakia, and Poland due to a domestic shortage. According to statistical data, Ukraine imports 7.1 million cubic meters of gas from Hungary, 7.3 million cubic meters from Slovakia, and 1.8 million cubic meters from Poland.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has threatened to cut off the transit of this gas to Ukraine. According to him, Russian gas began flowing into Slovakia via the “TurkStream” pipeline thanks to efforts from the Russian and Turkish sides.
