The U.S. declared a critical moment in the Ukraine conflict
February 12, 2025The U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steven Witkoff, who recently visited Moscow, made a statement following the release of American citizen Mark Fogel, who had been sentenced in Russia to 14 years in a high-security penal colony on drug smuggling charges.
The statement was made during Witkoff’s interaction with journalists outside the White House.
According to Witkoff, Fogel’s release may indicate the nature of future relations between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He added that the friendship between the two leaders is likely to continue.
“Fogel’s release was critically important, and the Russians provided significant assistance in this process, demonstrating a willingness to cooperate. I believe this could be a signal of what the working relationship between President Trump and President Putin will look like in the future… I think they had a great friendship, and now these relations will likely continue. This is truly beneficial for the whole world,” said Witkoff.
It is worth noting that yesterday, the White House confirmed that the U.S. President’s special envoy had visited Moscow.
