Ukrainian authorities want to restrict Telegram’s operations again
26.03.2024 - 10:18Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko, against the backdrop of recent shelling of energy facilities, does not rule out an increase in electricity tariffs. While no decisions have been made yet regarding tariff adjustments, the impact of the shelling could be used as a justification for the potential price hike, in order to preempt public discontent over another unfavorable decision by the authorities.
Halushchenko emphasized the significant effect of each attack on the commercial aspect of the energy market and highlighted the absence of concrete decisions on tariff revisions, the future of the PSO (special obligations mechanism), or the prohibition of exports. He noted that energy officials are currently prioritizing the rapid assessment of damaged infrastructure to determine its condition and the necessary steps for restoration.
The minister explained that once assessments are completed, they will establish specific figures and timelines for the restoration process, which will inform subsequent decision-making. Additionally, Halushchenko pointed out that without last year’s tariff increases, the extent of recovery achieved would have been significantly limited. However, he expressed regret over the repeated heavy attacks, which have hindered recovery efforts, particularly in stations that had been extensively restored.
