The Office of the President denies that many NATO countries are against Ukraine’s membership in the Alliance
October 24, 2024Oleh Farion, after serving for a year as the chief medical officer of the Military Medical Commission at the Ternopil Regional Territorial Recruitment Center, bought an apartment, a house, and five land plots totaling several hectares—all in one day.
This information was highlighted online based on his financial disclosure.
Before joining the Military Medical Commission, Farion worked as a psychiatrist at the Kremenets Support Hospital. In his 2022 financial disclosure, the Farion family did not declare any real estate. However, after becoming the chairman of the Military Medical Commission at the Kremenets Territorial Recruitment Center and then the head of the medical service at the Ternopil Regional Territorial Recruitment Center, his 2023 disclosure shows that his wife purchased several real estate properties all on the same day.
The total amount of these transactions is not mentioned, but based on property prices and land costs, it likely exceeds the income and savings declared by Farion.
This case comes amid growing scrutiny over corruption in the military medical commissions in Ukraine. Following a high-profile corruption scandal in Khmelnytskyi, authorities in Volyn announced plans to review all conclusions of the Military Medical Commission that grant deferrals from military service.
Earlier in Khmelnytskyi, the deputy chairman of the local military medical commission and an emergency medical service doctor were accused of issuing fraudulent medical certificates with fake diagnoses for men of conscription age. The investigation uncovered 8 million hryvnias received in exchange for falsified disability certificates.
