October 10, 2023The head of the National Bank of Ukraine, Andriy Pyshny, has submitted a resignation statement citing health reasons.
This information became known through several informed sources.
It is also known that Pyshny submitted the statement while being abroad, specifically in Morocco, where he recently traveled as part of an official Ukrainian delegation to participate in the annual meeting of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.
The question of Pyshny’s return to Ukraine remains open, according to a source. The reasons for his possible non-return were not discussed, but the source suggested that dissatisfaction with the financial sector’s reaction to the regulator’s work after Pyshny took over as the head of the National Bank may have played a role. The source also noted that the previous head of the National Bank, Kyrylo Shevchenko, also left his position citing health reasons, and just two days later, it became known about a criminal investigation into Shevchenko and four other individuals regarding unlawful actions during their time at the state-owned “Ukrgazbank.” Currently, Shevchenko is outside Ukraine.
The Verkhovna Rada, at the recommendation of the President, supported the appointment of Andriy Pyshny as the head of the National Bank of Ukraine on October 7, 2022. He has held the position for 1 year and 3 days.
From March 2014 to November 2020, Pyshny served as the head of “Oschadbank.” In 2012, he was elected as a member of parliament. From 2007 to 2009, he was the Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council.
