On Tuesday, October 10, mass searches are taking place among the local elite in Zakarpattia, Ukraine.
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine conducted searches at the office of the Mayor of Mukachevo, Andriy Baloha.
According to sources in the Security Service of Ukraine, the searches are being conducted in the morning as part of an investigation into a corrupt scheme involving the sale of communal land around the “Avangard” stadium.
“This is a lucrative piece of land in the center of Mukachevo on the banks of the Latoritsa River. In the summer, the Mukachevo City Council put 3 hectares of communal land up for auction. Using a classic corrupt scheme, the land price was significantly undervalued, and a company effectively owned by the head of the Mukachevo District Council, Mikhail Lano, better known as the criminal authority ‘Bluk,’ ‘won’ the auction,” explained the source.
The source noted that the land price was undervalued by ten times, resulting in the Mukachevo city budget missing out on 100 million hryvnias from the sale.
Journalist Vitaliy Hlahola reported that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau is also conducting searches at the offices of Mikhail Lano, the Chairman of the Mukachevo District Council, Oleg Adamchuk, the Honorary Consul of Slovakia in Uzhgorod, and his brother Igor Adamchuk, as well as former deputy of the Zakarpattia Regional Council and owner of the “Uzhgorod” hotel, Alexey Baranyuk.
According to Hlahola, they are suspected of purchasing the “Avangard” stadium.
